Bay of Islands - 3 day sailing expeditions

Join our friendly crew and experience the Bay of Islands Maritime Park on a 3 day / 2 night coastal exploration aboard the 72ft SV Manawanui. The emphasis of our cruises lies on the appreciation of the marine environment and the outdoors in a relaxed, down to earth atmosphere. We focus on a range of outdoor activities which are designed to be fun and to also enable a greater level of interaction with the different maritime habitats. Sail the ocean, walk across towering cliffs, snorkel on stunning reefs, kayak around uninhabited islands and gather your own fresh seafood to experience the Maritime Park‘s rich diversity.

The walks, kayaking, snorkelling, sailing, seafood gathering as well as the comfort of a small group all form part of the experience.

Trips depart every Tuesday and Friday and passenger numbers are limited to 10 to ensure a personal atmosphere. Accommodation is in double cabins or multi share bunk rooms.

Sailing in the Bay of IslandsQ: What‘s the itinerary?

A: Not set. Island hopping with a few hours of sailing followed by active exploration and a good meal.

Q: What activities are offered?

A: Sailing, kayaking, snorkelling, fishing and walking, All activities are guided. No experience necessary.

Q: Where will we be going?

A: Further than anyone else! There isn't any standard route. Anywhere between Whangaroa and Mimiwhangata in the Bay of Islands area.

Q: What’s eco about it?

A: The idea is for participants to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the marine environment by means of hands on activities and interesting background info from our knowledgeable crew - if they so wish. Or you can just sit back and relax!

Q: Who is it suitable for?

A: Anyone above the age of 8 who enjoys nature and can survive for 3 days without a party.

Sunset in the Bay of IslandsQ: How big is the boat?

A: 72 ft or 22m (that’s pretty big!)

Q: How many people on it?

A: 10 passengers max plus 3 crew.

Q: What about diving? Can we dive off the boat?

A: Not really. (You’ll need a ticket, your own gear and a buddy and we can’t guarantee any particular location)

Q: What’s not included?

A: There are no hidden costs. The only thing not included is alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Q: How often do trip depart?

A: Every Tuesday and Friday at 8 am. Returns Thursdays and Sundays by 4 pm. (on time for the 4.30 busses). Trips depart from and return to Paihia wharf.
